rain, rain, go away

It's raining here.

It's been raining here for three days straight. What's left of Hurricane Ike is currently hating on the Midwest, including south central Michigan. Albion has gotten god knows how much rain in the past three days, and the Kalamazoo River is supposed to crest at 9 feet. The basement of the Phi Mu lodge is flooding because the house sits in a bowl... it's all fantastic. I went to put something in the recycling this afternoon and there was so much water welled around the bins that some of them had toppled and were threatening to float away. Yesterday at the football game (which the officials did not call off) a moat had formed around the field and Albion's facilities crew had to set up a pump system for an especially bad puddle near one of the endzones. Leer and I drove through Albion last night (after the National Weather Service warned us that most flood deaths occur in cars...) to check out the river. It had swollen over the normal edges of the riverbanks, engulfing some observation platforms and docks, and covered half of a storm drain outlet that you can normally walk right into.

Like I said... it's raining here.

I think when they said "flood watch", I think they meant "watch it flood".

squirrel delay

Via CuteOverload.

This kind of reminds me of the squirrels on Albion's campus. Like any campus wildlife anywhere, they've gotten so used to humans, they're tame. Sometimes they will be hiding in trash cans and scare the everloving daylights out of you when you throw something away. Last year, I caught one (it was an accident... and a very long story) and it scractched my hand. Just yesterday, I was on my way to breakfast and a squirrel was hanging out of a tree and started making angry noises at me.

Which is like the time I pissed off some geese at the School of Music at U of M.
